What Are PDO Threads?

PDO (polydioxanone) threads are biocompatible, biodegradable sutures that have been used safely in surgery for decades—most often for suturing incisions—because they fully dissolve in the body over time. In aesthetic medicine, fine PDO threads are placed under the skin to lift sagging tissue, smooth wrinkles, and trigger ongoing collagen production as they dissolve.

How PDO Threads Work

The procedure typically takes 30—60 minutes. Local anesthetic is used for comfort. PDO threads are introduced through tiny entry points using a fine cannula or needle.

After

Expect mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the entry points for several days. Most patients return to normal activities within 24—48 hours but should avoid strenuous exercise, dental work, and aggressive facial movements for 1—2 weeks while threads settle.

Results and Longevity

Lift is visible immediately. Threads dissolve over 6—9 months, but the collagen they’ve stimulated continues to support tighter, firmer skin—so overall results typically last 12—18 months. Maintenance treatments help preserve and build on results.
