Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
Overview
Women experiencing perimenopause and menopause symptoms—hot flashes, brain fog, sleep disruption, night sweats, memory changes, mood swings, weight gain, and low libido—increasingly turn to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to restore quality of life. At Le Nouveau Belle, our practitioners design individualized BHRT programs based on lab-confirmed hormone levels, lifestyle factors, and your goals.
What Are Bioidentical Hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to the hormones your body produces naturally. They are made in a laboratory from compounds found in plants—typically soybeans or wild yams—and processed into the same molecular form as human hormones (estradiol, progesterone, testosterone). Because the molecular structure matches, your body recognizes and metabolizes bioidentical hormones the same way it does its own.
How Bioidentical Hormones Are Made
Bioidentical hormones are produced in two main forms:
- FDA-approved bioidentical products — including estradiol patches, gels, and oral progesterone${EM}produced and standardized by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
- Compounded bioidentical hormones — formulated by a highly trained compounding pharmacist to specific dose and delivery preferences for an individual patient.
Both pathways deliver hormones identical in molecular structure to those your body produces—the difference is in dose flexibility, delivery method, and regulatory pathway.
Why Bioidentical Hormones (vs. Synthetic)?
Some traditional synthetic hormones are derived from plant progesterone and animal estrogens but are not chemically identical to the hormones the body uses. Because they are slightly different at the molecular level, they may not metabolize the same way human hormones do. Bioidentical hormones—identical in structure—are designed to integrate naturally with your body’s own systems.
